What are same-day crowns?

A same-day crown is a dental restoration that Dr. Zaffer designs and fabricates during a single visit. 

Traditional crowns — tooth-shaped caps that protect and restore damaged or decayed teeth — typically take 2-3 days to place. The planning and placement process usually requires at least two appointments, and an outside laboratory can take 2-3 weeks to create the crown. During this time, most patients wear temporary crowns. 

Same-day crowns cut your wait time down to one visit. With an intraoral scanner and onsite computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, Dr. Zaffer can take digital impressions of your teeth, design your crown using specialized software, and create the restoration in-house.

CEREC technology ensures a comfortable, digital process for same-day crowns that typically includes:

Consultation and exam

Dr. Zaffer performs a thorough dental exam and takes digital X-rays to determine whether you’re a candidate for CEREC crowns.

Tooth preparation 

Next, Dr. Zaffer prepares your teeth for crowns by filing and reshaping them. Since CEREC uses an intraoral scanner to take highly accurate impressions of your teeth, he doesn’t have to remove much of your natural tooth structure.

Crown creation

After uploading your digital impressions into CEREC’s software, Dr. Zaffer uses CAD/CAM technology to create your custom-made crowns. This process only takes a few minutes.

Crown placement

Once your crowns are ready, Dr. Zaffer places them over your damaged or decayed teeth. He then makes any necessary adjustments before cementing them in place.
